Subject: 2009 Bass Africa Classic

Dear Sir,

Sadly, the 2009 Bass Africa Classic Committee had to make a decision and cancel this year’s event.

There are numerous factors that forced our decision to cancel the tournament, which ran successfully for the past two years:

  1. The 2009 Bass Africa Classic required a minimum amount of 60 entries before the end of June and unfortunately this has not been achieved. By this point the event would have already overrun their budget on advertising and sourcing of prizes.
  2. The Bass Africa Classic will not be able to fund the Top 15 angler prizes, Heaviest Fish Prize, Junior and Ladies Prizes, and ancillary prizes if the tournament is insufficiently supported.
  3. Most of our sponsors have had an extremely testing year and it was not possible for them to schedule the same prizes into their budget for the 2009 tournament.
  4. The KZN angler support has always been a large contribution to the tournament. However, a recent change in their fishing calendar has created a clash of events for August and this has contributed to reduced participation figures.

Even though it was stated on the Entry Form that the Entrance Fee is non-refundable, we will be refunding these amounts. However, we ask for your patience in this regard, as it will be a process of breaking down the expenses on the 2009 event, building up the cashflow again and making the payments. We hope to have all amounts paid back before the 14th August 2009.

We apologise if the decision to cancel the tournament has caused any inconvenience to you, but unfortunately the Bass Africa Classic cannot be held responsible for the influences of the economy, or any other factors which may have been detrimental to the success of the 2009 event.

We value your support and look forward to the next opportunity of hosting the Bass Africa Classic.

Yours sincerely
